What happened? Internship for VET students in the frame of Erasmus+ programme
Which topic? Cheese production
Who was there? 10 participants from Ankara, Turkey, including 8 students and 2 accompanying persons
When and where? From the 20.05 to the 02.06 2018 in Geraci Siculo
Who organised? “A Rocca” NGO and its international department, EProjectConsult.
The name of the project? Cheese training in Italy
The results? The participants gained international experience along with the knowledge and skills on the job and got in touch with the traditional Italian and Sicilian culture. At the end of the project, participants received “A Rocca” placement certificate and EUROPASS mobility certificates.
Cultural Programme
During their free time they enjoyed Italian cuisine in local restaurants and had a traditional “aperitivo” with the team of “A Rocca” in Barcellona P.G.

General Skills and Competencies Acquired:
- Observing, receiving and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources in the cheese production sector
- Understanding and using different technics of cheese production
- Learning how to make famous italian cheeses like ricotta and provola
- Gaining a whole-system perspective on cheesemaking
- Understanding how ingredients and technics influence cheesemaking
- Analysing the principal raw ingredients used in cheese production, notably in italian cheesemaking, and selecting the best products available
- Learning the importance of different breed dairy cows milk and its influence on cheese production
- Gaining knowledge on biological agriculture and its influence on cheese production
- Analysing the microbiological and physicochemical composition of cheeses
- Visit of the traditional cheese factory production
- Recognizing and following safety and hygiene procedures
The project was finished with evaluations from the students. In their assessment they described the project as valuable, useful and interesting. “A Rocca” and EProjectConsult are satisfied to have offered the students a possibility to gain professional experience in their sector to be more competitive in the labor market. The project took place smoothly and we are hoping to continue the pleasant cooperation with the school.
