What is earth hour exactly? Earth hour 2012 will take place on Saturday 31 March at 8.30 pm. At this specific moment, at lots of places in the world, people are going to switch off their lights for one hour. This year, the earth hour will be on Saturday 31 March, 8.30 pm and hopefully there will be a lot of countries participating again. Last year, more than 5,200 cities and towns in 135 countries worldwide switched off their lights for Earth Hour 2011, sending a powerful message for action on climate change. Earth hour is the largest environmental event in history, and its popularity grows each day. It introduces a new era with members going beyond this one  hour to commit to lasting action for the planet. Without a doubt, it’s shown how great things can be achieved when people come together for a common cause. It’s a unique opportunity for people to do something sustainable and positive for the environment. It has been the source of inspiration for millions of people taking steps forward towards a cleaner and safer future. How to participate? There are lots of ways to be involved in earth hour and to take action for this event and the thought behind it. You can be a social media fan, a hands-on organiser, one of the participants or the one who spreads the word about this happening. Besides this, you can also set up your own earth hour for example at your university, in your street or in your company.
