A new international mobility experience begins in Sicily

Over the weekend, EProjectConsult welcomed several new groups of Erasmus+ mobility participants to Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto and Milazzo, Sicily, where they are about to begin an important international traineeship experience.

These new arrivals come from different European countries and represent a wide range of vocational education and training pathways. Their mobility experience in Sicily combines practical learning, intercultural exchange and personal development, offering participants the opportunity to apply their skills in real working environments while discovering a new social and cultural context.

The first days were dedicated to welcome and orientation activities designed to help participants settle in and start their journey with confidence. The programme included a welcome presentation, informal social moments, and the first meetings with local host organisations and companies involved in the traineeship pathways. These initial activities are essential in creating a positive, supportive and well-structured start to the mobility experience.

Vocational sectors involved in the traineeship placements

This new round of Erasmus+ mobilities involves participants in a variety of professional sectors, reflecting the diversity of European VET pathways and the strong connection between training and the labour market. The traineeship placements cover technical and mechanical professions, environmental responsibility and sustainable innovation, health and social care, early childhood education, emergency and civil protection, as well as retail, sales and logistics.

Among the vocational fields represented are refrigeration, ventilation and air conditioning installation, automotive electrical maintenance, electromechanical maintenance, welding, bricklaying and other mechanical professions. Other participants are engaged in placements related to the maintenance of parks and gardens, social integration, healthcare support, kindergarten education, dietetics-related environments, retail assistance, supermarket and shop-based activities, bakery settings, and logistics-related tasks.

From theory to practice through work-based learning

These international traineeships give young people the opportunity to move from theory to practice by developing professional competences in real workplaces. At the same time, they strengthen key transversal skills such as adaptability, teamwork, communication, responsibility and intercultural awareness. For many participants, this is not only a work-based learning experience, but also an important step towards greater autonomy and a broader European perspective.

The role of host companies and local organisations

The role of local host companies and organisations is central to the success of these mobilities. By welcoming trainees from abroad, they actively contribute to a process of exchange that benefits both the participants and the local community. Their involvement helps build meaningful links between education, professional training and the world of work, while also reinforcing the value of international cooperation at local level.
