Transfer of Innovation, Multilateral Project – Leonardo da Vinci Lifelong Learning Programme – Game Methodologies Applied to Vocational Educational Training – GAMVET – 2012-1-TR1-LEO05-35136 –

A Digital Agenda for Europe” and “Europe 2020 Strategy” documents aim to reinforce the attractiveness  of vocational education and training (VET) and maps out its potential with respect to the Flagship Initiatives “An agenda for new skills and jobs”.  Initial vocational education and training (IVET) must equip young learners with skills directly relevant to evolving labor markets, such as e-skills.

The GAMVET Project will be providing experience-based and active learning to promote the acquisition of e-skills, initiative, curiosity, intrinsic motivation and the critical thinking of individuals. All of this is embedded in games developed by VET teachers in cooperation with local stakeholders to simulate working scenarios and competences in learning. The Game platform and Game Methodologies developed in the framework of the project will individualize learning by working one-on-one or small teams.A growing community of teachers is encouraged to meet learning objectives and to integrate the use of ICT-games-social media in the training curriculum, within clear pedagogical framework to support new competencies.

The innovation development is one of the goals that Leonardo da Vinci programme striving for through the VET action, which is supporting the transnational innovative change of the people responsible for training and/or human resources.

As stressed in the Europe 2020 Strategy, the VET systems should focus their curricula on creativity, innovation and entrepreneurship. In order to fulfill its role, vocational education and training has to reflect changes in the economy and in society.

The objective of multilateral projects of Leonardo da Vinci Transfer of Innovation is to increase the quality and attractiveness of European education and training through the adaptation and integration of innovative content or results from previous Leonardo da Vinci projects or other innovative projects within the systems of public and/or private vocational training and enterprises at national, local, regional or sectorial level.

In short, the most important steps in implementation of this projects are:

  • Blending the selected innovations and adapting them to the legal framework, training system (public, private, sector), language, culture and geography as well as to the needs of target group;
  • Transferring them to, and testing them in the new environment;
  • Integrating or even certifying the transferred innovations in European, national, regional, local or sector training systems and practices.

Transfers of innovation projects focused on VET education are aimed to improve and update of skills and/or practices and innovative methods of the fields of training.

A vision of fostering creativity and innovation is needed that focuses on individuals within modernized, excellent and high quality VET systemsVET providers, in partnership with authorities and enterprises, should foster creativity and an innovation-conducive framework which encourages risk-taking and experimentation (knowing that the biggest risk is not risking). Innovation means doing new things or finding new ways for doing familiar things. For Innovation development projects this means that something new is developed (contents, methods, procedures, etc.), as the final result of the project.

VET providers should use experience-based learning and expose learners to non-routine work and non-typical situations. There appears to be a need to promote active learning in both work and school-based VET and give individuals the opportunity to control and develop their own learning, also through the use of innovative, creative and tailored made ICT tools, including active learning, to improve the access to and flexibility of training, promote the acquisition of e-skills, initiative, curiosity, inherent motivation and the critical thinking of individuals.

A key factor for the future economical growth is the full development of innovation and creativity of European citizens potential, based on culture and European scientific excellence.

The creativity and innovation cannot lead to a strong, sustainable finished product without the respect of cultural diversity, which in itself is a wealthy and valuable source of creativity and innovation.
