Agriculture Sector
EProjectConsult has hosted Greek participants in the frame of Erasmus+ Programme aimed at VET learners and staff. In cooperation with Ergastiriako Kentro Verias, the “From Production to Processing and Marketing” Project was implemented in the Sicily. The duration of the project was for 2 weeks, from 10th November 2014 until 24th November 2014. The subject of the placement for participants was agronomy, food technology and sustenance. The interns had the opportunity to improve skills needed for a future professional career in the field of their studies.
Internship in the Agriculture Sector – Students were placed in SMEs where it was possible to deal with the agricultural business fields of those enterprises, including food production procedures and techniques, machinery used, biological production & consumption, company strategies and other.
Cultural Programme
In the free time they had chance to visit some beautiful places in Sicily, and know Italian cuisine thanks to the local restaurants.
Internship
- Azienda Agricola Cambria wine company producing excellent wines from harvested indigenous grapes "nocera" from the estate of Mastronicola. It pursues a specific objective: to highlight the uniqueness of the area balancing modern technology and careful craftsmanship and tradition in winery. The winery of Cambria is one of the most technological wineries with a long standing presence in Sicily.
- Associazione Culturale Etnografica Ambientale “Jalari” extends on a surface of 35 hectares surrounded by hundreds of stone sculptures and fountains. Its architectural style is particular so that combines reconstructions of Sicilian dominations, columns of Greek art, Arabic domes, the severe scallops of Norman castles etc.
- Azienda Agricola da Campo Filippo: a local business of olive grove near to Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto.
- Azienda Agricola Celi Ansaldo Tommaso The farm of Thomas Celi. Is situated in the lands of the valley of Mela in the hilly area of Peloritans. As far as the oil has already been awarded by the D.O.P. Valdemone, and as for the wine, it has obtained the D.O.C. Mamertino tittle. The family tradition, handed down for four generations, therefore, continues with the intention of always producing excellent quality of olive oil and wine.
- SALAMITA SOC.COOP. is located in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. The Cooperative "Salamita" was formed in 1972 at the instigation of the brothers Salamita, who grew their company under biological production procedures.
Skills and professional competences acquired
- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources in the field related;
- Establishing and Maintaining Interpersonal Relationships: learning on developing constructive and cooperative working relationships with others;
- Development of specialized Italian language skills;
- Critical Thinking: Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems;
- Understanding the implications of new information for both current and future problem-solving and decision-making;
- Developing social perspectives and being aware of reactions of other co-workers and supervisors;
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying and taking the time to understand the points being made.
Activities/Tasks performed:
- Getting information about the cultivation techniques resulting from collaboration with agronomist in the organic.
- Learning about Bio Agriculture, traditional food production in Sicily and the benefits of biological product consumption.
- Gaining experience in their field of studies and becoming acquainted with the traditional Italian and Sicilian techniques.
- Having the opportunity to visit many local businesses and organizations that trade in the fields of agronomy, food technology and sustenance.
- Attending to theoretical course on wine production was held in the office of ‘A Rocca’. Being informed by professional agronomist about the procedure of making vineyards, biological production, quality control, product standardization, marketing plan/export plan.
- Attending the procedure of vinification, aging, bottling and wine-tasting.

In conclusion, we were very happy to meet and host participants of Erasmus+ program. The evaluation of the project is excellent. At the end of the project, participants received “A Rocca placement certificate” and EUROPASS. We hope that the knowledge and skills acquired here will be helpful in their future paths!
