EXChange AI: Exploring Art, Artificial Intelligence, and Inclusion in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto
Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Sicily recently became the stage of an inspiring international initiative, bringing together creativity, innovation, and social impact. As part of the Erasmus+ KA210 project EXChange AI – Expeditions for Change: Navigating the Skills & AI Landscape, participants from Italy, Germany, and Bulgaria gathered for a unique workshop that connected art, artificial intelligence, and adult education in new and inclusive ways.
A creative journey through art and AI 
The first expedition of the project, hosted by EProjectConsult and A Rocca, offered participants the chance to explore how artificial intelligence can be integrated into artistic and educational practices.
Guided by Italian artist Demetrio Di Grado, the group engaged in a collaborative workshop that merged digital tools with traditional collage techniques. The creative process began with a brainstorming session to design prompts for AI tools, generating images and concepts that later served as the foundation for a collective artwork. 
This approach highlighted the potential of AI not only as a technological instrument but also as a catalyst for collaboration, creativity, and inclusion.
Discovering the cultural and artistic heritage of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto
The program also included an immersive cultural tour of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, where participants discovered artistic landmarks such as:
- “Seme d’Arancia” by Emilio Isgrò
- Discontinuo House/Studio curated by Alessio Barchitta
- “Energia” by Mariano Pietrini and “Nuova Rinascita” by Giovanni Gargano at ITET Fermi
- The Borgo Cannistrà open-air museum, featuring works by local and national artists, including Di Grado himself.
This artistic journey reflected the city’s vibrant cultural landscape, which blends tradition, contemporary creativity, and community engagement.
A meaningful visit to MuMa – Museo del Mare
One of the most impactful moments was the visit to MuMa – Museo del Mare, an innovative space that uses video, virtual reality, augmented reality, and multimedia artistic installations to raise awareness about marine conservation and the anthropogenic impacts on oceans. Designed especially for young people, MuMa’s immersive educational experiences left participants inspired by the connection between art, technology, and environmental responsibility.
Inclusion at the heart of EXChange AI
Beyond art and technology, EXChange AI placed a strong emphasis on social inclusion. The initiative actively involved young people from the Day Centre for Autism “Progetto Dopo di Noi”, supported by ANCOS Confartigianato and in collaboration with IRCSS Bonino 
Pulejo. By engaging them in the creative process, the project provided innovative educational and communicative tools, fostering creativity, empowerment, and social participation.
Why EXChange AI matters
EXChange AI demonstrates how artificial intelligence can become a tool for education, inclusion, and cultural exchange. By combining workshops, artistic exploration, and social engagement, the project highlights new methodologies in adult education while opening doors to future skills and perspectives in a world transformed by AI.
As Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto hosted this first expedition, it positioned itself as a hub of creativity and innovation, bridging art, digital transformation, and social impact. The journey will continue with future expeditions in Germany and Bulgaria, further expanding the dialogue on how AI can reshape education and society.
